doTERRA follow up after a class: 15 messages that keep it safe

The class went well, people smelled the oils, a few filled in a card, and now comes the part that decides whether anyone hears from you again. This is also the part where essential oil conversations drift into health talk, which doTERRA's own policy manual does not allow. These 15 messages cover the thank you, the guest who did not order, the Wholesale Customer question, doTERRA Rewards and the safety questions, and they answer the last with the label and the doctor. Compare the plain customer rhythm in Herbalife follow up messages or see Young Living follow up for another oils company. Copy any message, or add all 15 to your keyboard and send them from any app in one tap.

Words in {{double braces}} are blanks. In the textcuts keyboard you fill them with one tap, and the names you used recently come back.

Thank you after the class

Thank you the same evening

Essential
Hi {{name}}, thank you for coming to the class tonight. I loved sharing it with you. Which oil did you enjoy most? I will send you the names of the ones we smelled so you can find them again.

When to send: The evening of the class.

Why it works: Asking which oil she liked is an easy question, and it gets her talking about what she wants.

The oils from tonight

Hi, so you do not have to remember them, here are the oils we tried: {{item}}. Tell me which one you would like to smell again, and I will bring a sample next time we meet.

When to send: The morning after the class.

Why it works: A short list is useful by itself, and the sample offer needs no commitment.

Their class card

Pro
Hi {{name}}, I saw on your class card that you liked {{product}}. How do you picture using it at home, in a diffuser or around the house? I can show you what the label says.

When to send: A day or two after the class, when she filled in a card.

Why it works: It builds on her own answer and keeps the conversation about the label.

The Lifestyle Overview

EssentialPro
Hi {{name}}, the next step after the class is a Lifestyle Overview. It takes about 30 minutes and I teach you how to use what you picked. I have {{day}} at {{time}}. Does that suit you, or shall I send two more times?

When to send: Two days after the class, for guests who ordered.

Why it works: It gives one concrete time and an easy way to ask for another.

The guest who did not buy

No order, no problem

Essential
Hi {{name}}, thanks again for coming. You did not order anything, and that is completely fine. If a question came up after you got home, ask me here. Which oil from the class would you like to smell again?

When to send: The day after the class.

Why it works: It takes the pressure off and keeps one easy door open.

What would be useful at home

Hi {{name}}, what would be most useful at your place: a nice smell in the diffuser, simpler products for cleaning, or a small gift for someone? Tell me and I will point you to one or two things to look at.

When to send: A week after the class, if she has not replied.

Why it works: Three everyday options are easier to answer than a general question.

Not now

No problem, {{name}}. I will check in once more in a few weeks, and after that only if you message me first. If you want me before then, I am here.

When to send: After a polite no, or a second unanswered message.

Why it works: It tells her exactly how often she will hear from you.

Who came to mind

Pro
Hi {{name}}, while we were at the class, who came to mind that you wish had been there? I would be glad to share a class with a few of your friends. I could bring everything on a {{day}} evening.

When to send: A few days after the class, to guests who enjoyed it.

Why it works: It asks who she was thinking of instead of asking for names.

The Wholesale Customer question

What is a Wholesale Customer

Essential
Hi {{name}}, you asked what a Wholesale Customer is. It is an account that lets you buy doTERRA products at wholesale prices for yourself and your family. Wholesale prices average about 25% below suggested retail, and Wholesale Customers do not earn commissions.

When to send: When she asks how to order at a better price.

Why it works: It answers in the company's own terms and says what the account is not.

Wholesale Customer or Wellness Advocate

To be clear, {{name}}: a Wholesale Customer account is just for your own orders. A Wellness Advocate account is for someone who wants to share doTERRA with others. You do not need the second one to enjoy the products, and you can upgrade later if you change your mind.

When to send: When she is unsure which to choose.

Why it works: It separates the two accounts so she can choose the simpler one.

Starting with a kit

If you would like a starting point, {{name}}, the Family Essentials Kit has 10 oils and blends in one box. I can go through each one with you on a call and you can decide whether a kit or a single bottle suits you better.

When to send: After she asks where to start.

Why it works: It offers a walk through, not a purchase, and keeps single bottles in play.

doTERRA Rewards

What doTERRA Rewards is

Essential
Hi {{name}}, doTERRA Rewards is an optional monthly order. You choose what goes in it, change it any month, and cancel any time. Orders of a set size earn points toward free products, and the terms are on doterra.com. Want me to walk through it before you decide?

When to send: When she asks about saving on regular orders.

Why it works: It says it is optional and cancellable before anything about points.

Your points

Hi {{name}}, a reminder about your doTERRA Rewards points: they expire 12 months after they are issued and have no cash value. Shall we look at your balance and choose what to redeem?

When to send: When a customer has had Rewards for several months.

Why it works: It is a service reminder based on the program terms.

Safety questions

Ask your doctor

Essential
Good question, {{name}}. I cannot give medical advice, so please read the label directions and ask your doctor, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a skin condition. When you have heard from them, I will help you choose.

When to send: Whenever she asks about health, pregnancy, medication or a skin reaction.

Why it works: It keeps you out of medical territory and keeps the customer's trust.

Children and pets

Hi {{name}}, for children and pets please check with your pediatrician or your vet first, and read the cautions printed on each bottle. Not every oil is used the same way, so the label comes first.

When to send: When she asks about using oils around kids or animals.

Why it works: It sends the question to the right professional and to the label.

Do not say

  • A medical claim about an oil, or recommending a product for a specific ailment ("use it for anxiety", "it helps my allergies"). doTERRA's policy manual says a Wellness Advocate may not make any medical claim or prescribe a product for an ailment.

Instead: Please read the label and ask your doctor.

    Source

  • Likening an oil to a drug, or saying it can replace medication or a doctor's advice.

Instead: Oils are not medicine. Ask your doctor about anything medical.

    Source

  • Saying a product is approved by the FDA. The policy manual says not to state or infer it, and doTERRA labels carry the statement that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.

    Instead: Point to the label.

    Source

  • Income figures, "financial freedom" or lifestyle promises. In 2026 the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council closed an inquiry after doTERRA had 12 salesforce posts of this kind removed.

Instead: If someone asks about the business, send doTERRA's Opportunity and Earnings Disclosure Summary and let her read all of it.

    Source

  • Saying you earn money for signing people up. doTERRA says commissions are based on product sales and not on recruiting or sponsoring alone.

Instead: A Wholesale Customer account is enough to enjoy the products.

    Source

  • Mass texting people you have never spoken to. The policy manual prohibits sending unsolicited messages to lists of people with whom you have no prior relationship.

Instead: Write to guests who came to your class and gave you their number.

    Source

  • doTERRA logos, or wording that suggests you speak for the company.

Instead: Say you are a doTERRA Wellness Advocate.

    Source

  • Pressure after a no.

Instead: One more message, then stop.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should I follow up after a class?

The same evening with a thank you, the next morning with the list of oils you smelled, and within two days with an offer of a Lifestyle Overview for guests who ordered. For guests who did not order, send one message the next day and one a week later, then stop.

What do I say when someone asks a safety question?

Send her to the label and to her doctor, and do not answer the medical part yourself. doTERRA's policy manual says Wellness Advocates may not make medical claims or recommend a product for a specific ailment, and it points to the FDA statement printed on doTERRA labels. The message "Ask your doctor" on this page does this.

What is doTERRA Rewards?

It is doTERRA's optional monthly order program, called the Loyalty Rewards Program in older materials. Under the terms, participation is voluntary, you can change the products each month and cancel at any time, points have no cash value and expire 12 months after they are issued, and doTERRA can change the benefits and rules. Point it out as optional and send her to doterra.com for the current rules.

Where is doTERRA's income disclosure?

At doterra.com/disclosure. The 2026 Opportunity and Earnings Disclosure Summary says a doTERRA business is an opportunity to earn modest supplemental income, that there are no guarantees, that expenses can exceed commissions, and that in 2025 about 58% of active U.S. Wellness Advocates did not earn any commissions. Send the whole document if someone asks about the business and do not quote numbers of your own.

Can I send these on WhatsApp, iMessage and Instagram?

Yes. textcuts is a keyboard, so the templates work in every app where you type.

Do these templates work on the free plan?

Yes. 12 of the 15 use a single blank, which fills in on the free plan. The other 3 use two blanks and need Pro to fill both from the keyboard.
