Mary Kay 2+2+2 follow up: 16 messages for after the sale
A Mary Kay sale is only the start. Whether she bought a TimeWise set, a lipstick or a Satin Hands set, the 2+2+2 rhythm keeps you in touch at two days, two weeks and two months, with something useful each time. These 16 messages follow that rhythm in an Independent Beauty Consultant's own words: the order check, the feedback ask, the refill, the Mary Kay Satisfaction Guarantee, gifts and introductions. None of them makes an income or skin promise. For a company neutral version, see customer follow up after a purchase, and for another brand, Herbalife follow up messages. Copy any message, or add all 16 to your keyboard and send them from iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram or any other app in one tap.
Works in WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, Messenger and every other app.
Words in {{double braces}} are blanks. In the textcuts keyboard you fill them with one tap, and the names you used recently come back.
Two days after the sale
Day 2: did everything arrive
Essential
Hi {{name}}, it has been two days since your Mary Kay order, so I wanted to make sure everything arrived and looks right. Is there anything you would like me to show you how to use? Reply here and I will walk you through it.
When to send: Two days after she gets her order.
Why it works: It checks on the order first and offers help, which is the job of an Independent Beauty Consultant, not a sales pitch.
Day 2: the steps in order
Good morning {{name}}. New sets can feel like a lot of steps, so here is my tip: start with the cleanser and the moisturizer for a few days and add the rest one at a time. Want me to write out your morning and evening steps?
When to send: Two days after a skin care order with more than two products.
Why it works: It lowers the stress of a new routine and ends with a yes or no offer.
Day 2: show me the color
Hi {{name}}, did you try your new lipstick or mascara yet? Send me a selfie in daylight if you like. I would love to see it, and I can tell you if another shade would suit you even better.
When to send: Two days after a color order.
Why it works: A selfie is easy to send and gives you something real to talk about.
Two weeks later: feedback
Week 2: how is it going
EssentialPro
Hi {{name}}, two weeks in. How are you getting on with your {{product}}? Tell me one thing you like and one thing you would change, and I will adjust what I suggest next.
When to send: Two weeks after the order.
Why it works: Two small questions are easy to answer and tell you what to offer next.
Week 2: is the shade still right
Hi {{name}}, a quick check on your foundation. Does the shade still look right to you now that the light has changed? I can bring a fresh sample so we can match it again in daylight.
When to send: Two weeks after a foundation order, or when the season changes.
Why it works: Shades look different over time, so a check feels like service.
Week 2: the Satisfaction Guarantee
Essential
Hi {{name}}, one thing I tell all my customers. If something is not right, the Mary Kay Satisfaction Guarantee covers your purchase for one year from the date you bought it. I can replace it, exchange it or refund it in full. Just keep your receipt.
When to send: Two weeks after the order, or whenever she is unsure about a product.
Why it works: It removes the fear of buying and states the terms as Mary Kay publishes them.
Week 2: no reply yet
Hi {{name}}, no rush to answer. When you have a minute, I would love to hear one thing about your order. A word or two is plenty, and it helps me a lot.
When to send: A week after the week 2 message with no reply.
Why it works: It asks for very little and gives permission to answer later.
Two months later: restock and next steps
Month 2: the check up
Essential
Hi {{name}}, it has been about two months since your order, so I am doing my check ups. Are you running low on anything, like the cleanser or the moisturizer? I can put together a refill list for you.
When to send: About two months after the order.
Why it works: It is the third touch of the rhythm and turns a refill into a service.
Month 2: your product is running low
Pro
{{name}}, by my notes your {{product}} should be getting low around now. Shall I add one to my next order so it is here when you need it?
When to send: Two months after the order, for products used daily.
Why it works: It uses her own order history, which makes it personal.
Month 2: new products
Pro
Hi {{name}}, I put the new products on my Mary Kay shop page: {{link}}. Have a look at skin care or color first, whichever you like, and tell me what catches your eye.
When to send: Whenever Mary Kay launches something new, to customers who already bought.
Why it works: It points to your own page and lets her choose where to look.
Gifts, birthdays and introductions
Gift sets
Hi {{name}}, I am booking my gift appointments for the holidays. Tell me who you are shopping for and roughly what you would like to spend, and I will suggest sets. Many customers choose the Satin Hands and Satin Lips sets.
When to send: A few weeks before a gifting season.
Why it works: Asking who she shops for lets you suggest something that fits.
Birthday
Happy birthday, {{name}}! I hope it is a lovely day. If you would like, I can put together a small birthday set for you, with one thing for your skin care and one for color. No pressure, just say the word.
When to send: On her birthday.
Why it works: A birthday message is a reason to write that asks for nothing.
Introducing a friend
Essential
Hi {{name}}, you have been such a lovely customer. If a friend would enjoy trying the products with me, I would be happy to sit down with them the way we did. Would you like to introduce us?
When to send: After her second order.
Why it works: It asks for an introduction, not a sale, and only after trust exists.
MKMen
Hi {{name}}, you mentioned someone at home never has time for skin care. Mary Kay has MKMen, with a daily facial wash and the Ultimate Moisturizer. Want me to bring a sample for them?
When to send: When a customer mentions a man in her life.
Why it works: It answers something she said and offers a sample, not a set.
Questions and staying polite
Closing the loop
Essential
Hi {{name}}, I will stop popping into your messages so I do not crowd your phone. If you ever want a refill or a new color, I am one text away. Take care of yourself.
When to send: After two unanswered messages. Then stop.
Why it works: Leaving warmly keeps the door open for the next order.
When a customer asks about the business
Thanks for asking, {{name}}. I am an Independent Beauty Consultant, which means I run my own Mary Kay business and I am not an employee. Nobody can promise results, and Mary Kay says income depends on many factors. I am happy to answer anything you want to know.
When to send: When a customer asks how you do it.
Why it works: It is honest about the role and points to what Mary Kay itself says.
Income figures or lifestyle promises ("quit your job", "six figures", "passive income"). Mary Kay told the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council that its policy bars members from discussing earnings online or making earning potential claims.
Instead: Say that no income can be guaranteed and send the page where Mary Kay says so: Be a Beauty Consultant.
Skin or medical promises ("clears eczema", "fixes rosacea", "stops breakouts for good"). Health claims need scientific evidence, and one customer's story is not enough.
Instead: Tell her how you use the product and what the label says, and suggest a dermatologist for any skin condition.
Works in WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, Messenger and every other app.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 2+2+2 follow up?
It is a simple rhythm for customer care: a message two days after the sale, another two weeks later and a third two months later. The first checks the order, the second asks for feedback and the third helps with refills. It is a habit, not a rule, so move the dates to match when she actually received her order.
What do I say about the Mary Kay Satisfaction Guarantee?
Say what Mary Kay says. Under the Satisfaction Guarantee, a product bought from an authorized consultant that does not satisfy her can be replaced, exchanged or refunded in full if she returns it within one year from the purchase date. If the consultant is no longer selling Mary Kay, she can contact the Customer Satisfaction Department at 800 MARY KAY, with proof of purchase. The message "Week 2: the Satisfaction Guarantee" on this page says this.
What do I say when a customer asks about Mary Kay income?
Do not quote numbers of your own. Mary Kay's Be a Beauty Consultant page says it is impossible to guarantee that a particular amount of income can be earned, that income depends on personal goals, time invested and business expenses, and that Mary Kay does not pay for or require recruiting. Send her that page and check your current consultant materials for any earnings statement before you discuss the business.
Can I send these on WhatsApp, iMessage and Instagram?
Yes. textcuts is a keyboard, so the templates work in every app where you type.
Do these templates work on the free plan?
Yes. 13 of the 16 use a single blank, which fills in on the free plan. The other 3 use two blanks and need Pro to fill both from the keyboard.
