Car lease end texts for dealers: 13 templates

A lease customer is a few months from handing back the keys and has questions they may not know how to ask. They will remember who explained their options calmly. These 13 messages cover the early heads up, a plain explanation of return, buy or switch, checking mileage, wear and tear, scheduling the inspection, asking about a buyout figure, return day and what to say when they are not ready to decide. They go to customers who gave you their number. Copy any message, or add all 13 to your keyboard and send them in one tap. It works in any app, including iMessage, WhatsApp and SMS.

Works in WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, Messenger and every other app.

Words in {{double braces}} are blanks. In the textcuts keyboard you fill them with one tap, and the names you used recently come back.

Planning ahead

Months out

EssentialPro
Hi {{name}}, your lease ends around {{date}}. Nothing to decide yet, I only want you to know your choices early. Shall I walk you through them?

When to send: Four to six months before the end date.

Why it works: It lowers pressure and offers a walk through.

Options in plain words

Essential
{{name}}, at the end of a lease you can usually return the car, buy it, or move into another one. I can explain each in plain words. Which interests you?

When to send: After they say yes to the walk through.

Why it works: It names three options and lets them pick.

Check the mileage

Essential
Do you know where your odometer stands, {{name}}? Send me a photo of it and I'll compare it with the allowance in your contract.

When to send: Three months before the end date.

Why it works: A photo is easy to send and avoids a surprise.

Value versus buyout

Hello {{name}}, depending on the market, your car could be worth more or less than the buyout in your contract. I can check both numbers for you.

When to send: When they ask whether to keep it.

Why it works: It is honest that either outcome is possible.

Preparing

Wear and tear

{{name}}, a quick tip: walk around the car and note any dents, curb rash or stained seats before the return. I'm happy to look with you and advise.

Early change

If you're thinking about changing cars before the end of the lease, {{name}}, ask me first. Sometimes it can be arranged, sometimes not, and I'll tell you honestly.

When to send: When they hint about leaving early.

Why it works: It is honest about the limits.

Fee you do not understand

Hello {{name}}, if the lease company sent you a charge you don't understand, send me a photo and I'll help you read it.

When to send: Any time a statement worries them.

Decision

Buying out

Do not say

  • Texting a number that never agreed to hear from you, or one from a bought list.

Instead: Text only people who gave you their number and agreed to hear from you. Type each message yourself, and stop the moment they ask. In the US, texting rules (TCPA) require consent.

  • Fees or numbers you have not seen in writing.

Instead: Get the figure from the lease company in writing before you say it.

  • "You have to decide this week" when no deadline exists.

Instead: Give the real return date and nothing more.

  • Texting lease customers who never gave you permission.

Instead: Only text people who gave you their number, and honor stop requests.

  • "Guaranteed financing", "everyone approved" or "no credit needed".

Instead: Say you will review their options together and that approval depends on the lender.

  • Copy pasted pitches that open with "Hey buddy" or ignore what the person told you.

Instead: Start with their name and one detail from your conversation.

  • Fake urgency ("only one left", "another buyer is coming") when it is not true.

Instead: Say what is true: where the car is and what is ready.

  • A price or monthly payment you cannot honor.

Instead: Send the full written figure, with taxes and fees, or invite them in.

Frequently asked questions

When should I contact a lease customer?

Four to six months before the end date, then again at three months, two months and one month, only as needed.

Should I mention a new car in the first text?

No. First help with their choices. They will bring up the next car when they are ready.

Do these work on the free plan?

Yes, 12 of the 13 use one blank and work fully on the free plan, which allows 8 textcuts, 1 folder and 1 blank per textcut. The other 1 use two blanks, so filling both from the keyboard needs Pro. You can always copy any message and type the second detail by hand.

Is it okay to text customers, and what about opt out?

Text people who gave you their number and agreed to be contacted, one message at a time. Tell new contacts how to stop, for example "tell me if you'd rather not get texts", and honor any stop request right away. Never text bought lists.

Does it work in WhatsApp, iMessage and other apps?

Yes. The textcuts keyboard works in any app where you type: iMessage, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, SMS and email.
