Testimonial request texts for coaches and trainers: 13 templates

Your best marketing is a happy client saying so in their own words. Asking feels awkward, and doing it carelessly can break advertising rules, so it pays to have the right words ready. These 13 messages ask for a review kindly, get permission before you quote anyone or share a photo, keep every testimonial honest, and say thank you either way. Copy any of them, or add all 13 to your keyboard and send them from iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram or any other app in one tap.

Works in WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, Messenger and every other app.

Words in {{double braces}} are blanks. In the textcuts keyboard you fill them with one tap, and the names you used recently come back.

Asking

Soft ask

Essential
Hi {{name}}, it's been great working with you. If you're happy with how it went, would you write a short review? A few honest sentences is plenty.

When to send: After a good milestone or the end of a package.

Why it works: It says honest, which clients appreciate.

The link

Essential
Thanks for offering. Here's the link: {{link}}. It takes two minutes. Write whatever's true for you.

When to send: When they say yes.

Why it works: One tap and they are there.

Private feedback first

Essential
{{name}}, before any public review, I'd love private feedback. What worked, and what should I do differently?

When to send: When you want to learn first.

Why it works: It shows that you want to improve.

Gentle nudge

Hello {{name}}, just a nudge on the review. If it's not for you, that's completely fine and doesn't change anything between us.

When to send: A week after the ask.

Why it works: It takes the pressure off.

Permission

Quote permission

Essential
{{name}}, you said something lovely last week. May I quote it on my website, with your first name only? Say no if you'd rather I didn't.

When to send: When a client says something kind.

Why it works: You ask before using their words.

Photo permission

Essential
Hi {{name}}, would you be okay with me sharing a photo from your sessions? I'll only post it if you say yes, and you can ask me to take it down any time.

When to send: Before posting any photo.

Why it works: Consent is clear and reversible.

Keep it truthful

{{name}}, thank you for the kind words. Everyone's results are different, so I'll keep your quote to what you actually experienced.

When to send: When you receive a strong quote.

Why it works: It protects you and keeps the review honest.

Name in newsletter

{{name}}, may I thank you by name in my newsletter? I'll leave your name out if you prefer.

When to send: Before a public thank you.

Why it works: Another small permission, asked politely.

About rewards

Hi {{name}}, a note: if I ever give anything in return for a review, the review should say so. I'm not offering anything, so just write your honest view.

When to send: If you ever discuss incentives.

Why it works: It keeps the review clean for readers.

Afterwards

Thank you

Essential
Thank you for the review, {{name}}. It really helps new people decide. I'm grateful.

When to send: After they post.

Why it works: Gratitude makes a second favor easier.

Group class review

Hi {{name}}, our class is growing, and reviews help. If you enjoy it, a few honest words on my page would mean a lot.

When to send: For regular class members.

Why it works: It suits a more casual relationship.

Referral ask

Hey {{name}}, if you know someone who'd enjoy training with me, you can pass on my number. No pressure, and no reward needed. I'd just appreciate it.

When to send: After a review or at a happy moment.

Why it works: An introduction, not a sale.

Hard feedback

Thank you for the honest feedback, {{name}}. I'm sorry it wasn't what you hoped for. I'd like to hear more, if you're open to a call.

When to send: When feedback is negative.

Why it works: It turns a complaint into a conversation.

Do not say

  • Writing a review for the client or editing their words.

Instead: Let them write it, and quote only what they said.

    Source

  • Offering a free session or a gift for a good review.

Instead: If you do offer anything, say so openly, and never ask only for positive reviews.

    Source

  • Using a quote about dramatic results that are not typical.

Instead: Share what people can generally expect, and say results vary.

    Source

  • Posting a client photo without permission.

Instead: Ask first, in writing, and delete it on request.

  • Asking only happy clients and hiding the rest.

Instead: Ask everyone you worked with, and learn from the quiet ones.

    Source

  • Pressuring a client who ignored you once.

Instead: Send one gentle nudge, then let it go.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask a client to write a review?

Yes. Ask kindly, let them write whatever is true for them, and do not edit their words. The FTC's guidance says endorsements must reflect the honest opinion of the person giving them.

Do these work on the free plan?

Yes, mostly. 13 of the 13 templates use a single blank, which fills in from the keyboard on the free plan. Free holds 8 textcuts and 1 folder, so the six essentials fit comfortably. Importing all of them also works, because imports are never blocked and nothing is deleted.

Do I need permission to use a client's words or photo?

Yes. Ask in writing, tell them where it will appear, and delete it if they ask. The permission templates above do that.

Can I send these on WhatsApp and Instagram?

Yes. textcuts is a keyboard, so the templates work in every app where you type, including iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and SMS.
