Discovery call follow up texts for coaches: 13 templates

You spent half an hour on the phone with someone who might become a client, and now you wait. Most of the work happens in the next few days. These 13 messages thank them, repeat back what you heard, share the details when asked, handle price and timing worries, nudge twice at most, and leave the door open if it was not a fit. Copy any of them, or add all 13 to your keyboard and send them from iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram or any other app in one tap.

Works in WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, Messenger and every other app.

Words in {{double braces}} are blanks. In the textcuts keyboard you fill them with one tap, and the names you used recently come back.

Right after the call

Thanks for your time

Essential
Thanks for your time earlier, {{name}}. I enjoyed hearing what you're aiming for. I'll send a short summary of what we covered tonight.

When to send: Within an hour of the call.

Why it works: It is warm, and it promises one thing you will do.

What I heard

Essential
Hi {{name}}, here's what I heard: your goals, how many days you can train, and what's got in the way before. Is that right? Tell me what I missed.

When to send: The same evening.

Why it works: A recap shows that you listened.

Suggested start

{{name}}, based on our talk I'd suggest starting with two sessions a week for a month. I'll send the details and prices. Does that sound right?

When to send: With the summary.

Why it works: A clear suggestion helps them picture the first month.

Price

Pro
Hi {{name}}, the starter package is {{count}} sessions for {{price}}. It includes a plan for the days we're not together. Ready when you are.

When to send: When they ask for prices.

Why it works: It states it plainly, with no pressure.

While they decide

Hold a slot

Pro
Hello {{name}}, I have openings on {{day}} and {{date}}. Which one shall I hold for you?

When to send: When they lean yes.

Why it works: Two choices make the next step easy.

Gentle check in

Essential
Hi {{name}}, how are you feeling after our call? Any questions I can answer before you decide?

When to send: Two days later.

Why it works: It asks for questions, not a decision.

Time to think

Essential
Of course, {{name}}, take the time you need. If it helps, a trial session is an easy way to see if we click.

When to send: When they say they need to think.

Why it works: A low risk next step.

Second nudge

{{name}}, I'll check in once more. If the timing isn't right, that's absolutely fine. Message me whenever you're ready.

When to send: A week after the first nudge.

Why it works: Once more, then stop.

Talk to someone

No rush, {{name}}. If you'd like to talk it over with someone first, I'm happy to answer any questions they have.

When to send: When they mention a partner or a friend.

Why it works: It includes the people in their life in the decision.

Worries and endings

Price worry

Essential
I understand, {{name}}. If the price is the issue, I do have a smaller option. Want me to send it over?

When to send: When cost is the objection.

Why it works: It offers a real alternative.

Doctor first

Essential
{{name}}, since you mentioned a past injury, please get a quick okay from your doctor before our first session. Then we'll plan around it.

When to send: When a lead mentions a health issue.

Why it works: It keeps you out of medical advice.

Not a fit

{{name}}, I think another kind of coach would suit your goals better. I'm happy to point you toward someone. Wishing you well.

When to send: When it truly is not a match.

Why it works: An honest referral earns respect.

Months later

Hi {{name}}, we spoke a while back about training together. Whenever you're ready, I'd love to pick it up. No pressure.

When to send: Two or three months later.

Why it works: A light touch can restart a conversation.

Do not say

  • Promising results from the program ("you'll definitely get there").

Instead: Describe what you will do together and say results vary.

    Source

  • Giving health advice to a lead.

Instead: Ask them to check with their doctor first.

    Source

  • False scarcity ("only two places left") when untrue.

Instead: Share the real openings in your calendar.

  • Following up five times.

Instead: Use two nudges, then a note months later.

  • Texting leads from a list you bought or never spoke with.

Instead: Message only people who gave you their number and asked to hear from you.

  • Comparing yourself with other coaches.

Instead: Say what you do and who it suits.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should I follow up after a discovery call?

Within the hour with a thank you, and that evening with a short summary. Then wait two days before asking if they have questions.

Do these work on the free plan?

Yes, mostly. 11 of the 13 templates use a single blank, which fills in from the keyboard on the free plan. The other 2 use two or more blanks, so filling every blank from the keyboard needs Pro. Free holds 8 textcuts and 1 folder, so the six essentials fit comfortably. Importing all of them also works, because imports are never blocked and nothing is deleted.

How many times should I chase a lead?

Two nudges at most, a week apart. After that, send one note months later or let it go.

Can I send these on WhatsApp and Instagram?

Yes. textcuts is a keyboard, so the templates work in every app where you type, including iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and SMS.
